Designed by former local resident Freddy Wittop, the red satin sequined costume that Carol Channing wore while playing the title role during the original Broadway run of Hello, Dolly! was donated to the Smithsonian following the thirtieth anniversary tour of the show. It is currently on display at the National Museum of American History.

While that particular gown is in the Smithsonian, however, the remainder of Freddy Wittop's original costumes are housed in the permanent collection of the Costume World Broadway Collection, a theatrical museum dedicated to Broadway costuming in Pompano Beach.

These costumes are used for design reference, and in certain circumstances, rental to select professional theatres across the United States.

Wittop died locally at age 89, shortly after being chosen as the 2001 recipient of the Theatre Development Fund's Irene Sharaff Award for lifetime achievement in theatrical costume design. His original sketches are still showcased in museums and sold in art galleries throughout the country.
