MAJOR GIFTS OFFICER
Full-Time · On-Site · Jupiter, Florida
Reports to: Director of Development
ABOUT MALTZ JUPITER THEATRE
Maltz Jupiter Theatre is Florida’s leading regional theatre — a LORT B+ institution operating a 659-seat main stage and 198-seat secondary space. With its $47M renovation fully funded and debt-free, the Theatre is recognized for both artistic excellence and institutional integrity, and operates on a strong earned-to-contributed revenue model. MJT is committed to producing world-class theatre, investing in arts education, and making the arts accessible throughout the Palm Beach County community.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Major Gifts Officer is a frontline fundraising professional responsible for growing and managing a portfolio of mid-tier individual donors — primarily those giving in the $1,000–$25,000 range — through proactive outreach, strategic cultivation, and high-quality stewardship. This is a relationship-first role, requiring someone equally comfortable analyzing a donor portfolio and sitting across from a prospective supporter over coffee.
In addition to individual giving, the Major Gifts Officer plays a supporting role in identifying and introducing corporate and business partnership leads, helping to build the Theatre’s pipeline of institutional supporters in coordination with the Director of Development and marketing staff.
STRATEGIC RATIONALE
This role addresses one of regional theatre fundraising’s highest-opportunity, most underleveraged segments: consistent, relationship-driven cultivation of donors giving $1,000–$25,000 annually, positioning MJT to grow contributed revenue ahead of its next strategic planning cycle.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Mid-Tier Individual Donor Portfolio
- Grow and stabilize an active portfolio of approximately 150 mid-tier donors and prospects, with primary focus on donors giving $1,000–$25,000 annually.
- Meet a Year 1 fundraising goal of $600,000, with expected growth toward $800,000–$1.2M by Year 2 or 3.
- Develop and execute individualized outreach and cultivation strategies for each portfolio donor, in coordination with the Director of Development.
- Conduct in-person meetings, theatre tours, backstage experiences, and cultivation events to deepen donor relationships.
- Draft personalized gift proposals, acknowledgment letters, impact reports, and stewardship communications.
- Identify prospects for portfolio upgrades and major gift qualification; make referrals to the Director of Development where appropriate.
- Track all donor activity, moves management, and pipeline progress in the Theatre’s CRM system.
- Achieve annual fundraising goals established in collaboration with the Director of Development, the Producing Artistic Director/Chief Executive, and the Development Committee.
Corporate & Business Partnership Support
- Identify prospective corporate and business partners through personal networks, board relationships, and community engagement.
- Introduce qualified leads to the Director of Development or designated marketing staff for follow-up and cultivation.
- Attend local Chamber events, community gatherings, and networking functions as a representative of the Theatre.
- Assist in preparing materials for corporate partner meetings and stewardship touchpoints, as needed.
Board & Volunteer Engagement
- Partner with the Development Committee and Board members to coordinate cultivation introductions and stewardship opportunities.
- Prepare Board members with talking points, prospect briefings, and follow-up strategies for donor and partner conversations.
- Support board-hosted events, cultivation lunches, and engagement evenings as a staff liaison.
- Reporting & Collaboration
- Report progress on portfolio metrics, moves management, and revenue projections to the Director of Development on a regular basis.
- Collaborate across Development and Marketing teams on donor-facing communications, events, and materials.
- Participate in quarterly Development team reviews and annual planning processes.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required
- Minimum five years of professional fundraising experience, with demonstrated success in individual donor cultivation and solicitation.
- Proven track record of growing and managing a donor portfolio and closing annual gifts at the $1,000–$25,000+ level.

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to write compelling donor proposals and correspondence.
- Proficiency with CRM systems (e.g., Audience View, Donor Search, or similar).
- Strong organizational and reporting skills.
- High degree of personal integrity, discretion, and donor confidentiality.
- Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

REPORTING STRUCTURE & ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT
The Major Gifts Officer reports to the Director of Development, with regular collaboration alongside the Producing Artistic Director/Chief Executive. The role carries no supervisory responsibilities at inception but may grow into a team leadership position as the department expands.
If the Major Gifts Officer performs as projected, leadership anticipates bringing forward a request to hire an outbound corporate partnerships specialist within one to two years. This phased approach allows MJT to build the infrastructure and donor intelligence needed to support a dedicated business development function, without overextending resources prematurely.
