Jersey Boys Character Breakdown

TOMMY DEVITO (Lead) MALE, 30-40; strong tenor/baritone voice, must be comfortable with traditional four-part harmonies; must be comfortable with narrative text; ability to play guitar a strong plus; a natural-born leader with appealing bad-boy quality. SUGGESTED AUDITION SONG: Earth Angel

FRANKIE VALLI (Lead) MALE, 20-35; must be 5’9 or shorter; must have a strong tenor with sweet and strong falsetto and be able to sing in the style of Frankie Valli; strong tenor to high A or Bb plus strong falsetto up to treble G; charismatic and charming; must be a very strong actor (comfortable with narrative text) and have a gritty side as well as a polished veneer; must be very comfortable with four-part harmonies. SUGGESTED AUDITION SONG: Walk Like A Man

NICK MASSI (Lead) MALE, 30-40; strong bass/baritone voice, must be very comfortable with traditional four-part harmonies; must be comfortable with narrative text; a quiet dreamer who longs for life after The Four Seasons. SUGGESTED AUDITION SONG: Big Girls Don’t Cry “silly boy…silly girl”

BOB GAUDIO (Lead) MALE, 20-35; preferably tall; strong tenor/baritone voice; must be very comfortable with traditional four-part harmonies; must be comfortable with narrative text; an intelligent, sensitive, and introspective musical prodigy. SUGGESTED AUDITION SONG: December 63’ (Oh What A Night)

Male 1. NICK DEVITO (Chorus/Ensemble) MALE, 20-35; strong actor/singer to play various roles; 30’s; strong tenor/bari-tenor voice; must be very comfortable with traditional four-part harmonies; also needs to be comfortable with narrative text; ability to play guitar a very strong plus; bad-boy quality; good dancer.

Male 2. JOE PESCI (Chorus/Ensemble/Frankie Alternate) MALE, 20-35; must be 5’9 or shorter; young, energetic; must be a good actor and a good actor and strong singer. See FRANKIE breakdown.

Male 3. BOB CREWE (Supporting) MALE, 30-40; intelligent and flamboyant; genius music producer and lyricist; an integral part of creating the magic of The Four Seasons.

Male 4. GYP DECARLO (Supporting) MALE, 45-55; tough, Mafioso type; must be a strong character actor and strong singer. 

Male 5. BARRY BELSON (Chorus/Ensemble) MALE, 20-49; strong actor and singer to play various roles (friends, producers, etc.); strong tenor to high C; with a strong falsetto to G above high C; has the ability to riff in rhythm-and-blues style.

Male 6. HANK MAJEWSKI (Chorus/Ensemble) MALE, 20-49; strong actor and singer to play various roles (friends, producers, etc.), bari-tenor voice down to a strong low G (low E a big plus); guitar and/or drums a plus.

Female 1. MARY & OTHERS (Chorus/Ensemble) FEMALE, 20-39; Frankie’s wife; tough, “Seen it all”, Italian, Jersey girl; she’s got a killer sense of humor; actor also plays a variety of other roles including member of a 60’s style girl group; strong belt useful; high straight tone soprano also useful; very good dancer. SUGGESTED AUDITION SONG: My Boyfriend’s Back

Female 2. LORRAINE & OTHERS (Chorus/Ensemble) FEMALE, 20-35; Frankie’s girlfriend; educated; not from Jersey; a reach career girl; young Diane Sawyer; actor also plays a variety of other roles, including member of a 60’s style girl group and tough-as-nails Jersey girl; strong high belt useful, belt to high F extremely useful; high, straight tone soprano also useful; very good dancer. SUGGESTED AUDITION SONG: My Boyfriend’s Back

Female 3. FRANCINE & OTHERS (Chorus/Ensemble) FEMALE, 20-37; Frankie’s daughter; named for, doted on and deeply loved by Frankie. She’s a Jersey girl—vulnerable, lost and acts out to make up for lack of attention from her dad. Actor also plays a variety of other roles including member of a 60’s style girl group and a tough-as-nails Jersey girl. Strong, high belt useful. Belt to high F extremely useful, high straight tone soprano also useful but not required; very good dancer. SUGGESTED AUDITION SONG: My Boyfriend’s Back

Sweet Charity follows the romantic trials and tribulations of Charity Hope Valentine, a dance partner-for-hire at a seedy dance hall in New York City. Though the job may be undesirable, Charity’s hopeful romanticism and optimism lift her out of her circumstances and help her reach for a life beyond.

Sweet Charity Character Breakdown

CHARITY HOPE VALENTINE (FEMALE, 20-35, LATIN-X) Down-on-her-luck, but always hopeful. A dancehall hostess who dreams of finding true love. Determined, fun, quirky, funny, despairing, optimistic. Must be a very strong dancer.  Alto/Mezzo (E3-C#5)

HELENE (FEMALE, 20-35, AFRICAN AMERICAN) Sultry and sassy dancer at the Fandango Ballroom; one of Charity’s best friends. Been around the block a bit. Straight talking, feisty, confident, and streetwise. Must be a strong dancer. Mezzo with a big belty sound (F3-C#5)

NICKIE (FEMALE, 30-45, ANY ETHNICITY) Brassy New Yorker, dancer at the Fandango Ballroom. One of Charity’s close friends. She has seen it all and is quick to offer advice to Charity and the other girls. Must be a very strong dancer. Mezzo with a strong belt (F3-C#5)

OSCAR LINDQUIST (MALE, 25-40, ANY ETHNICITY) A square, claustrophobic, educated, well spoken, shy, repressed and gawky man. Works as an actuary (the most boring job in the world). A reluctant romantic. Strong physical comedy. Vocal Range: (B2-Gb4)

VITTORIO VIDAL (MALE, 30-45, WHITE) Very handsome, international film star. Italian. Knows his place in the world. Charismatic and authoritative. Has a way with the ladies and hot headed wife named Ursula. Baritone with an operatic sound (Bb2-G4)

HERMAN (MALE, 35-55, ANY ETHNICITY) Owner of Fandango Ballroom. A tough taskmaster. Grizzled and annoyed at everything but with a heart of gold. Must be a strong tenor (E3-B4)

URSULA MARCH/ENSEMBLE (FEMALE, 25-35, ANY ETHNICITY) Beautiful, hot headed and jealous wife of Italian movie star, Vittorio Vidal. A flair for the dramatic. Must be a strong dancer

DADDY BRUBECK/ENSEMBLE (MALE, 25-40, AFRICAN AMERICAN) A true hippie, founder and leader of the Rhythm of Life Church. A spiritual, enigmatic, but laid back kind of guy. Must be a strong dancer (C3-E4)

FEMALE/MALE ENSEMBLE (25-40, ANY ETHNICITY) strong performers who can play multiple featured roles with ease. Must sing well and be very strong dancers.  From the ensemble we will be selecting two singers for the following parts; SOLO TENOR (F#3-D#4) and ROSIE (A3- Bb4).
