Maltz Jupiter Theatre

Directed and choreographed by Tony Award®-nominated director Marcia Milgrom Dodge,
the production will star Broadway’s Robert Petkoff as Tevye

November 4, 2014 – Celebrate the festival of lights at the Maltz Jupiter Theatre with Fiddler on the Roof like you’ve never seen it before!

Currently celebrating its 50th anniversary, a colorful, reimagined version of the classic Tony Award®-winning musical Fiddler on the Roofwill hit the Theatre’s stage December 2 – 21. Set in 1905 in the village of Anatevka in Tsarist, Russia, the story follows dairyman Tevye as he fights to maintain his family and heritage. Featuring timeless melodies and songs such as “Sunrise Sunset,” “Matchmaker, Matchmaker” and “If I Were a Rich Man,” this beloved musical will capture your heart.

Director and Choreographer Marcia Milgrom Dodge – herself one of four Jewish daughters – has conducted much research to ensure that the production is steeped in historical accuracy of turn-of-the-century Jewish village life in Eastern Europe. Starring Broadway’s Robert Petkoff as “Tevye,” Dodge will be reunited with “Tateh” from her Tony Award®-nominated revival of Ragtime.

“My passion for Fiddler on the Roof runs deep, and I believe it has remained a beloved treasure because the themes of tradition, family, prejudice and change transcend all boundaries,” Milgrom Dodge said. “I am ecstatic to be collaborating with a wonderful design team to reimagine Fiddler on the Roof in the musical’s 50th anniversary year.”

Milgrom Dodge most recently headed the Theatre’s critically-acclaimed productions of The King and I, Hello, Dolly! (Carbonell Award for best director) and Anything Goes (Carbonell Award for best choreography), as well as the Theatre’s production of Master Class. The design team also features costume design by Carbonell Award nominee Gail Baldoni, innovative scenic design by Troy Hourie (based on the work of Israeli artist Shalom of Safed), evocative lighting by Carbonell Award nominee Paul Miller and music direction by Carbonell Award winner Helen Gregory.

“In recent years, the Maltz Jupiter Theatre has been recognized for reinventing American classics as if theatergoers are seeing them for the first time,” said Andrew Kato, the Theatre’s producing artistic director. “We are so excited that director and choreographer Marcia Milgrom Dodge is again using her creative brilliance to re-imagine Fiddler on the Roof using many exciting new design elements.”

In addition to Petkoff, who appeared in All the Way on Broadway (and also recently starred in Anything Goes opposite Tony Award®-winner Sutton Foster), the 27-member cast will include Josh Walden – who directed and choreographed the Theatre’s critically-acclaimed production of A Chorus Line and appeared in the Theatre’s production of Hello, Dolly! – and Tia Speros, who stole local theatergoers hearts as Miss Adelaide in the Theatre’s production of Guys and Dolls. The cast will also feature Broadway’s Bill Nolte (La Cage aux Folles, The Producers).

It’s been five decades since Fiddler on the Roof first premiered on Broadway on September 22, 1964. It was nominated for ten Tony® Awards, winning nine (including best musical, score, book, direction and choreography), and held the record for the longest-running show on Broadway for 10 years. It spawned four Broadway revivals, a highly successful 1971 film adaptation and has enjoyed enduring popularity across the world. Come relive the magic and see the music you saw years ago come alive!
