Maltz Jupiter Theatre

Jupiter, FL (October 16, 2008) As part of the Maltz Jupiter Theatre's "We Create Art" season, the Theatre will celebrate the complex process of creating art on stage by sharing the step-by-step development of its season shows. Due to the high production values, many theatre-goers believe the Theatre to be a touring house that brings in large scale plays and musicals. "The reality is, every part of the production process happens on site at the Theatre," says Andrew Kato, the Maltz Jupiter Theatre's Artistic Director. "We hire 90 visiting artists from across the country, including directors, choreographers, designers, and actors who work to create our productions."

Last year the Theatre launched a new Gallery Hall to display local artwork in concert with each performance. This year the Maltz Jupiter Theatre will dedicate this Hall to "We Create Art", showcasing the process of the artwork of the set, costume, prop and lighting designers as well as pictures of the rehearsals.

The selection of the productions and their respective creative teams happens almost a year prior to the live show on stage.Artist Director, Andrew Kato, matches the directors, designers and cast to the needs of each show. When a team comes to Jupiter for the first rehearsal, most often they have never met or worked with each other previously and only have two weeks to learn the script, music, choreography and an additional week to coordinate the technical elements.

Kato says, "The art of creating art is completed in the weeks before our ticket holders see the show. With this special exhibit, everyone will be able to witness the ‘behind-the-scenes' development needed to create theatrical magic."

When you visit Gallery Hall, you will get to see not only the process of the artwork of the set, costume, prop and lighting design, but also the collaborations with two outstanding regional theatres: The Cleveland Play House with Noises Off and the Asolo Repertory Theatre with Barnum.

"I am so excited for our patrons to view Gallery Hall this season. Producing live theatre uses artists of every medium and our donors and business sponsors will get to see how their contributions have impacted the careers of these talented artists," says Tricia Trimble, Managing Director of the Maltz Jupiter Theatre.
