MALTZ JUPITER THEATRE
TO HOST FREE LECTURE
ON THE REAL STORY OF FANNY BRICE
September 30, 2009 (Jupiter) - In conjunction with its world premiere production of Fanny Brice: The Real Funny Girl, the Maltz Jupiter Theatre will sponsor a free lecture Oct. 13 by Dr. Jay Wolff, a storyteller whose lectures bring to life personalities and events of the past.
The title of this lecture, "Wrong is for other people," is a quote from the talented lady. It is part of the essence of this dynamic woman, who lived according to her own rules, making millions laugh at the expense of her personal happiness.
Dr. Wolff's Fannie Brice story reveals the woman and the show business star as someone much more complex than the character Barbra Streisand portrayed in Funny Girl.
A frequent guest speaker on cruise ships around the world, Dr. Wolff weaves the facts of history and the legends and folkways of civilizations into stories. His biographical presentations help listeners know and understand what made famous people tick.
"He is a dynamic speaker and educator," said noted historian Raul Hilberg. "No speaker I've ever heard can involve his audience in events from the past like Jay."
A graduate of Georgetown University's undergraduate and post graduate programs, Dr. Wolff is enjoying a second career after practicing dentistry in the Washington, D.C., area for 30 years. His many honors include membership in the British Royal Society of Health. His first scholastic and intellectual love was history, and following his retirement he expanded his history research, publishing and lecturing to full time. His articles have appeared in American Heritage, American Legacy, Forbes' Audacity, The Washington Post and the Los Angeles Times, among others. He has appeared on the History Channel as a commentator, and has been interviewed many times on network television. He makes frequent guest-speaking appearances throughout America.
His library of lectures, "The Story of...," includes 94 individual presentations, covering Alaska, The Panama Canal, South America, The British Isles, Northern Europe, Southern Europe, The Caribbean, The Atlantic, The Pacific, Australia and New Zealand, Asia, India, The Middle East and New England and Canada, all of which are recorded on CD and available via his Web site: www.drjaywolff.com.
The lecture will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 13, in the 500-seat Tamar and Milton Maltz Center for Education Auditorium at Florida Atlantic University's Lifelong Learning Society, at FAU's Jupiter Campus. The lecture is free, but tickets are required. To reserve tickets, please contact the Maltz Jupiter Theatre box office at (561) 575-2223.
Please note: Tickets may be picked up at the Maltz Jupiter Theatre, but the event is at FAU's Jupiter Campus, at Abacoa, off Donald Ross Road just east of Interstate 95.
