Jupiter, FL (March 2, 2009) - This Spring the Maltz Jupiter Theatre will present the largest musical ever produced on our stage since it opened! Evita, winner of seven Tony Awards, is the compelling mega-musical written by Andrew Lloyd Weber with lyrics by Tim Rice. This production has been captivating audiences for years and will be onstage March 17 - April 5, 2009 at the Maltz Jupiter Theatre to complete the record-breaking season.

With a 20-person ensemble and children's choir of 12 young local actors, this incredible musical tells the story of the life of Argentina's infamous Eva Peron entirely through song and dance as she climbed her way up the ladder of success. Beginning in 1934, the story follows the young girl's early life as an actress through her eventual rise to power as the wife of General Juan Peron.

Evita is directed and choreographed by Marc Robin, who has worked extensively in theatres such as Marriott's Theatre in Lincolnshire, Steppenwolf Theatre, Chicago Shakespeare Theatre and many others throughout the country. His work has earned him 14 Joseph Jefferson Awards (38 nominations), 11 After Dark awards and 3 Ari "Zoni" Awards.

Eva Peron will be performed by Jodie Langel, an actress that launched her career on Broadway in the role of Cosette in Les Miserables while still attending NYU's Tisch School of the Arts, and performed Grizabela in the National Tour of CATS, where she was the youngest person to ever portray the role.

Andrew Kato, Artistic Director of the Theatre says, "The caliber of performers our Theatre is attracting is phenomenal. We auditioned over 700 actors in Jupiter, Orlando and New York to find this outstanding ensemble."

The award-winning creative team includes musical direction by Helen Gregory (Carbonell nominations for Best Musical Direction for Man of La Mancha and The Full Monty), set design by Robert Kovach, costume design by M. Shan Jensen, lighting design by Donald Thomas (Carbonell winner of Best Lighting in Man of La Mancha and nominee for The Full Monty), sound design by Keith Kohrs and wig design by Gerard Kelly.

According to Robin: "Right now, anything that shows determination and perseverance in a time where it is so much easier to sit back and watch is a wonderful thing. I respond to the strength and courage that not only the show presents, but that the woman presents. So much of the time people focus on what they think they know, but they don't know all of the facts; I love stories that allow you to see all sides so that you can form your own opinion."

According to Kato: "Evita is the most ambitious project we have produced here at The Maltz Jupiter Theatre. In addition to the large cast we have re-orchestrated the completely sung-through score for a ten piece live orchestra which will support Evita Peron's epic journey."

About the show: Although originally conceived as a record project, Evita was destined from the beginning for the stage. Evita opened its New York run at the Broadway Theatre on September 25, 1979 with Patti LuPone in the lead and Mandy Patinkin as the enigmatic Che Guevera.
